Key Takeaways
1. Spiritual Healing is Inner Wholeness, Not Just Physical Cure
No one will ever be completely whole until he finds himself at home in God.
Beyond physical ailments. Spiritual healing transcends mere physical or mental fixes; it's about achieving an inner communion with God, a profound peace that satisfies the soul's deepest longing. Even if all external problems were resolved, an inner unrest would persist until this spiritual connection is established. This holistic healing brings a new dimension of life, where the body naturally resumes perfect function as a gift from the Lord.
Finding God's presence. The true goal of spiritual healing is not just the absence of disease, but the realization of "God with us," a felt presence and power that lifts consciousness into a spiritual dimension. This state, which Jesus called "My kingdom," allows one to live beyond three-dimensional limitations and experience life in ways unknown on the human level. It's about finding oneself in God, not just seeking something from God.
A deeper satisfaction. While medicine may eventually cure most physical diseases, it cannot reveal man's Soul or bring lasting inner peace. Watching television or engaging in fleeting pleasures offers temporary distraction, but true harmony comes only from conscious contact with the Source of existence. This profound satisfaction is the real and lasting healing the world seeks, even if it doesn't yet fully comprehend its nature.
2. God is the Infinite, Unchanging "Is," Not a Servant
What God is not already doing God cannot do and could not be induced to do.
God as Creative Principle. God is not a superhuman being waiting to grant favors or be persuaded by specific prayers; rather, God is the infinite Creative Principle of the universe, whose nature is all-embracing love and intelligence. This Principle already governs all natural laws—from sunrises to tides—without human intervention. To pray for God to do something implies God is not already doing it, which contradicts His eternal, unchanging nature.
Aligning with divine flow. Instead of trying to influence God, we must align ourselves with God's already flowing grace. God's work was "done in the beginning," providing abundantly for all needs. Our role is to understand and contemplate this truth, realizing that God's infinite love and intelligence assure us of good, eliminating fear and problems.
Beyond paganistic prayer. Traditional prayers that ask God for specific things like health, money, or protection are paganistic, treating God as a servant. True prayer is a seeking for more light, wisdom, and discernment, a willingness to be used by God, not to use God. This shift in understanding reveals that God's gift is Himself, and in that gift, all needs are met.
3. There is Only One Power: God, Rendering Evil Powerless
God is infinite power, and besides God there is no other power.
No opposing forces. The fundamental principle of spiritual healing is the realization of God as one power, meaning there is no room for any other power, negative or otherwise. This understanding eliminates the belief in powers of sin, disease, lack, limitation, or death. These are not powers over which God must contend; they simply lack inherent power if God is truly infinite.
"Resist not evil." When we grasp that God is the only power, we understand Jesus' teaching to "resist not evil." Fighting against sin, disease, or any problem gives it power. The battle is not ours; it's about realizing that in God's infinite nature, these discords do not exist as power.
- Disease is man-created, not God-ordained.
- It is without cause, foundation, law, substance, or action.
- Fear and fighting perpetuate the illusion of power.
Resting in oneness. When confronted with appearances of evil, the spiritual healer sits in inner stillness, realizing God's infinity and the nothingness of any opposing force. This conviction dissolves the appearance, revealing only infinite, immortal, eternal God-being. This is the secret to harmony: recognizing that there is nothing to battle.
4. Healing is Awakening from Universal Hypnotism and Illusory Beliefs
All the discord in the world is the product of the mind when it is distorted by ignorance.
"Chalk marks" of limitation. Many human sufferings are like being trapped within "chalk marks"—rules of human life, diagnoses, or accepted limitations—that we believe are real barriers. Jesus demonstrated that these are merely beliefs, and by seeing through them, people could rise and walk. Spiritual healing involves recognizing these "laws" of sin, disease, and lack as mere appearances, not actual hindrances.
The nature of illusion. Sin, disease, and death are not externalized realities but "illusory beliefs or concepts" existing only as "mirages." They are painful while believed, but their unreality means they can be dissolved. Healing occurs when consciousness perceives these conditions as illusions, not as actual diseases to be fought or removed.
- "Unreal" means "not permanent," not "nonexistent."
- It refers to anything not spiritual, eternal, or infinite.
- It's a denial of their existence as part of God or reality.
Awakening from mesmerism. Humanity is born into a "universal hypnotism" or "mesmerism," accepting material manifestations as real and suffering its effects (disease, poverty, war). Healing is an awakening to our true identity as Christ-consciousness, realizing that the error we fight is perpetuated by that very struggle. This awakening dissolves the hypnotic image, just as waking from a dream makes its contents vanish.
5. The Mind is an Instrument of Awareness, Not a Creator of Reality
The mind is an instrument of awareness. You can know the truth with the mind, but you do not create things with the mind.
Mind's true function. The mind is not a creative faculty, nor can it control the body through willpower. Its true purpose is to be an instrument of awareness, receptive to the "still small voice" of God, the Soul of man. Trying to control the mind with the mind often leads to greater distress.
Receptivity, not manipulation. In spiritual healing, the practitioner doesn't use mental affirmations or thoughts to create healing. Instead, they become a "listening vacuum," holding themselves receptive to the divine Impulse. From this silence, an inner assurance, a feeling, or a release comes, dissolving the error.
- "I can of mine own self do nothing."
- Let the Spirit, the Truth, carry the treatment.
- Do not try to manipulate infinite Truth with a finite mind.
Truth's activity. It is the activity of Truth in your mind that frees, not the activity of your mind. Just as a swimmer relaxes and lets the water carry them, the spiritual healer relaxes in God, allowing the Spirit to flow. This humility and receptivity make the mind a clear transparency for God's wisdom, which then governs every organ and function of the body.
6. Your Body is the Temple of God, Governed by Life, Not Matter
There is only one body: There is not a material body and a spiritual body. There is only one.
One body, spiritual substance. There is no duality of material and spiritual bodies; there is only one body, which is the "temple of the living God." Our concept of this body, often a "material sense," is what gets twisted into illness. The body itself has no power to be sick or well; it is our concept that appears as such.
Life governs the body. The body's organs and functions do not determine life or health; rather, Life (God) governs them. Just as a plant's life-force governs its stem and leaves, God's life animates and sustains every bodily function. Realizing this reverses the human belief that the body affects life, establishing that life governs the body.
- God is the animating principle or law of all that is.
- Organs and functions do not have power of destruction or disease.
- Inherent in every person is the power of God, a resurrection force.
Indestructible substance. Matter is not unreal; it is indestructible substance, mind appearing as visible form. Water can change to steam or ice but remains water. Similarly, the "Word, God, becomes flesh" without changing Its nature, remaining self-created and self-maintaining. Recognizing God as the substance and law of all form dissolves appearances of sickness, sin, and fear, revealing the body as a place of holiness and peace.
7. Embrace Divine Sonship and Eternal Unfoldment, Transcending Human Limitations
Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Melchizedek principle. In our true identity, we are like Melchizedek, "having neither father nor mother," meaning no physical process was involved in our true being. What we call human birth and growth is God unfolding, disclosing, and revealing Itself, much like a complete film unrolling in time. Our true spiritual being is always at absolute maturity and perfection.
Divine heritage. Our parentage is solely of God, the one spiritual creative Principle. This means we are "heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ," inheriting infinite intelligence, wisdom, and unlimited opportunity. Any perceived lack or limitation due to heredity or birth is merely an appearance, a "material sense" that dissolves in the conviction of divine sonship.
- God is the quality and quantity of the son, His essence.
- We are of the family of God, an offspring of God, not of man.
- Contemplation of this truth frees us from human limitations.
Life's eternal flow. Life is God, eternal and immortal, not subject to years or debility. The body changes through stages (infancy, childhood, adulthood), but life itself is continuous. Passing from this scene is not death but a transitional experience, a progressive step into a broader field of activity, especially for those on the spiritual path, who are instantly lifted into a higher consciousness.
8. Your Consciousness Shapes Your Reality and All Relationships
Your world and mine is an outpicturing of our consciousness.
Consciousness as law. Your awareness of truth acts as a law unto your world, governing all conditions and relationships. When consciousness is imbued with truth, the universe expresses harmony, prosperity, and peace. Conversely, an absence of truth allows world beliefs—chance, luck, discord—to claim presence. Every discord is a reflection of what has been permitted past the "door of your consciousness."
Oneness in relationships. To establish oneness with others, first contact the Spirit within and find your own completeness with the Father. This automatically unites you with everyone within your consciousness. When you see through appearances to God as the animating principle, mind, and love of every individual, you rise above personalities into pure being.
- God is the only love, infinite and all-powerful.
- No individual can be an instrument for hate, envy, or malice if filled with God's love.
- "I and my Father are one" is the relationship to God, independent of human ties.
Letting God love. When faced with hatred or ingratitude, we cannot humanly force ourselves to love. Instead, we must be willing to let God love through us, becoming an avenue for divine love. This "nothingizing" of self, letting God take over, brings peace and dissolves discord, even in challenging relationships.
9. Live by Grace, Not Karmic Law, for Infinite, Invisible Supply
Supply is one of the easiest demonstrations that a spiritual student can make, but there is a vast difference between the spiritual truth about supply and the human sense of it.
Supply is outgo, not income. Spiritually, supply is not about acquiring or getting, but about giving. All supply exists within you; to enjoy abundance, you must open a way for it to escape through giving. This isn't prodigal spending, but a willingness to release, whether it's material things or giving up resentment, jealousy, and the desire for recognition.
- Givingness, not amounts, is the key.
- Tithing (giving "first fruits" secretly) initiates the flow.
- The "bread cast upon the water" returns to the giver.
Invisible and infinite. Supply is Spirit, invisible and infinite, not money or property. Relying on visible forms for security leads to fear when they disappear. True supply is the "Infinite Invisible," the truth that God constitutes your being. Having God means consciously knowing Him as the "I" of your being, the source of all supply, which then appears as needed symbols (money, transportation, food).
Fulfillment, not desire. To desire specific things is to remain under a material sense of law. Instead, seek God-realization, the "fullness of illumination." God's garment is whole; seeking God as Spirit brings the entire mantle of supply, home, joyous relationships, and right activity. This is living by grace, where the infinite nature of life means you are not under karmic law, but continuously fulfilled.
10. God's Omnipresence is Your Ultimate, Invisible Protection
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Dwelling in God-consciousness. Biblical promises of safety are not automatic; they apply to those who "dwell in the secret place of the most High," living continuously in God-consciousness. This means utter reliance on God's presence and power, acknowledging Him in all ways—as life, mind, power, and source of supply. This conscious abiding makes one part of the "elect," exempt from the world's disasters.
God as fortress. We must literally understand God as our fortress, high tower, and refuge, not needing God and cement or God and medicine. Our life is "hid with Christ in God," making it invisible and indestructible. This invisibility is our assurance of safety, whether at home, in the office, or traveling.
- Bullets cannot destroy Life; flames cannot burn It.
- We are never "in" a vehicle; the vehicle is "in" our consciousness.
- Every person and situation we encounter is subject to our consciousness of truth.
Protective prayer is realization. True protective prayer is not asking God to save us from external evils, but realizing God as the only Power and Presence. It's knowing that no one has a selfhood, mind, life, or body apart from God, and that God is universal Intelligence. This realization prevents us from creating mental images of accidents or dangers, ensuring divine guidance and protection.
11. Transition from Law to Grace by Living in the Eternal Now
The Way is, IS: I am.
Spiritual evolution in time. Spiritual consciousness evolves in what appears as "time," a process of peeling away layers of material sense until one reaches a state of grace. This transition is a specific moment when we feel an inner impulsion, realizing we no longer live by human effort but by divine grace, free from the law of cause and effect.
Living in the now. Spiritual being has no past or future; it exists only in the "eternal now." Dwelling in the past (glories or miseries) or future (fears or desires) removes us from the "kingdom of heaven." To live in the now is to realize that "this second, God is expressing Itself, God is fulfilling Its own destiny."
- "I am" means I already am in heaven, perfect, spiritual.
- The Way is "IS," dropping concern for yesterday or tomorrow.
- This "straight and narrow" way is lived only in the present moment.
Fulfillment, not desire. In this state of nowness and grace, there are no desires because there is fulfillment. God is revealed as fulfillment, providing for all daily needs automatically as they arise, whether physical or material. This requires relinquishing the personal "I" and allowing the Spirit to operate through us, knowing that all already exists at the standpoint of fulfillment.
